Tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, C8H8O3, is one of the downstream products of maleic anhydride. It is used in alkyd resins and unsaturated resins to improve the adhesion, elasticity, gloss and water resistance of coatings. As a curing agent, it can be made into products with good high-temperature electrical properties compared with amines, so it is commonly used as epoxy resin curing agent. As a plasticizer, it can improve the cold resistance and heat resistance of PVC, and is non-toxic. At the same time, the product is also a raw material for the synthesis of surfactants and pharmaceutical pesticides.

As an intermediate of organic synthesis raw materials, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride is generally used to produce alkyd resins and unsaturated polyester resins, coatings, and as a curing agent of epoxy resins, and is also used in pesticides, vulcanization regulators, plasticizers and surface activators, alkyd resin modifiers, pesticides and pharmaceutical raw materials.

Tetrahydrophthalic anhydride as a raw material for the production of unsaturated polyester resin is mainly to improve the air drying property of the resin, especially in the production of high-grade resin ash, air drying coatings.
